Otley winters are hard on pipes. Frost settles in the valley under the Chevin, lofts and outhouses freeze, and older stone houses have pipe runs in places that were never meant to be insulated. Add the usual failed shower seals and stuck cistern valves, and emergencies happen at all hours. Ring 0113 490 0384 and you’ll get a plumber who will tell you how to make it safe straight away and when we can get to you.
We cover Otley, Pool-in-Wharfedale, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Menston, Bramhope, Guiseley, Yeadon and Ilkley. You’ll get an honest arrival time and the call-out price before we set off.
Make it safe first
- Shut off the water at the stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink. In older Otley terraces it’s often in the cellar. Clockwise until it stops.
- Kill the power near water. Switch off any circuit where water is near lights or sockets, if the consumer unit is safe to reach.
- Empty the pipes by running the cold taps and flushing the toilets.
- Turn off the boiler and immersion.
- Gas smell? Get out, leave switches alone and ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
